Fifty years ago, those of us that sailed small boats across oceans sailed on a shoe string and earned a living as we went along. The diversity of our means of survival became the subject of a book I wrote while spending the 1974 hurricane season anchored off a small island in the Bahamas. The first edition was titled, 101 Ways to Earn Your Living Afloat. The text was handwritten and the pages photocopied. As such it can claim to be the forerunner of “print on demand”. This eBook edition is a facsimile of the original, together with a few faded photographs and memories of times past.
